The Kalinzu Forest is classified as a medium altitude moist evergreen forest (Howard, 1991). A logging company in the northwest of the forest has been operated since 1970's and they mainly logged Parinari excelsa. There are also some illegal pitsawing occurred.
We set a study area around the logging company resident site. Vegetation in the study area is classified into 4 types.
The forest type in the western part of the study area was classified as a mixed mature forest. Common trees in this vegetation are Uvariopsis congensis, Drypetes spp., and Rinorea ilicifolia. |

Parinari execelsa is a dominant trees in the center of the study area. We devided this type of forest into 2 types: Parinari-dominated mature forest and Parinari-dominated secondary forest. Parinari-dominated mature forest was relatively undisturbed forest dominated by Parinari excelsa. Parinari-dominated secondary forest had a similar tree species composition to the previous category, but had been more disturbed by harvesting. |

Musanga leo-errerae is a dominant tree around the logging company resident area and near forestry roads. Many primates, including chimpanzees, like fruit of M. leo-errerae and they inhabit this type of forest with a high density. |
